OC Museum Opens New Fishing Exhibit

On June 5th from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, the Ocean City Life Saving Station Museum will have a Grand Opening of its newest exhibit, “Hook, Line and History: The Story of Sport and Commercial Fishing in Ocean City”.

For decades fishing has been a large part of Ocean City’s identity, shaping local culture, providing livelihood for many and bringing forth tourism.

This new exhibit provides a window into the past, allowing visitors to take a closer look at how recreational and commercial fishing has evolved since the 1920s.
Whether you are looking at photographs of lobster and clambakes that took place on the beaches of Ocean City in the 1950s or reading about how the White Marlin Open got started in the 1970s, you will feel inspired by the hard work and successes that have been experienced by our local fisherman.

"We hope that this exhibit inspires visitors to have a deeper connection to Ocean City’s cultural history after learning the stories of the fishermen and watermen that have shaped our town”, said curator Sandy Hurley.

This exhibit is designed to engage all ages by providing a wide range of elements and artifacts to experience. In addition to photographs and signage, there are aquariums filled with native wildlife such as seahorses and American eels. Megalodon shark teeth and fishing reels dating back to the 1930s are just some of the artifacts you will find on display.

The Ocean City Life Saving Station Museum is located at the southern end of the Ocean City Boardwalk. Parking is available at the Ocean City Inlet Parking Lot.
