Readers of the Tackle Shop know that we are big fans of Costa sunglasses and with their February merger with optics company, Essilor, it looks like better things are yet to come.
Costa’s latest release is their Cut model which features a large frame (ideal for people with big domes like myself), stainless steel hinges and a heavy duty nylon frame reduces the weight of the frame but maintains its strength and durability.
The Cut will be available with either Costa’s plastic or glass lenses and 9 different color frames (Honey Tortoise is shown).
The M.S.R.P. for the Cut model ranges from $129 for the 400P plastic lenses to $219 for the 580G glass lenses.
Costa also came out with their new Hamlin model, designed in the honor of Capt. Ron Hamlin, a legendary fisherman who has released more than 27,000 billfish.
The Hamlin has an extra large frame that also has stainless steel hinges and Costa’s heavy duty TR90 nylon frame in 9 different styles. Like all Costa frames, they come with a lifetime warranty. It has a suggested retail price of $129 for frames with plastic lenses and $219 for those with glass lenses.
One final note on Costa sunglasses. I have been asked several times about the differences between Costa’s glass and plastic lenses. According to the company, “Plastic lenses are more lightweight than glass for added comfort. They are also impact resistant and extremely durable. Glass lenses have the greatest clarity and scratch resistance. Plus, Costa LightWAVE™ glass is thinner & lighter than average polarized glass.”
You can find Costa sunglasses at most of the local tackle shops in our area along with the new Optical Galleria in West Ocean City.
Pelagic has expanded their outerwear line to offer it’s new Tempest Bib. The bib is constructed of heavy-duty PVC rubber, making it 100% waterproof, and all of the seams are welded to prevent leakage. One of the nicest features of the bib is an inner chest storage pocket that provides a waterproof seal for your cellphone, iPod or other electronic device.
The bib is available in medium, large and extra-large sizes and has a suggested retail price of $99.
Check with your favorite local tackle shop for availability.
