For years, anglers have been tying the basic dropper loop, not realizing that the knot can weaken the strength of the line by as much as 42%.
An angler in New Zealand has developed a knot, similar to the dropper loop, that retains almost 95% of the lines breaking strength. The knot is called the Kiwi Knot and some say is easier to tie than the conventional dropper loop.
If you want to tie multiple loops and don’t want them to all be facing the same direction coming off your main line, simply reverse the instructions for every other knot.
Like with all knots, keeping an even tension on the line is key when pulling the knot tight. You don’t need a blood knot tying tool for the Kiwi Knot, but using a fixed item like a nail comes in handy when using heavy line.
