Kohl Wins Top Angler in Bermuda Billfish Blast

Local angler, Nancy Kohl, known for hosting the cable television show, “Bait & Reel Adventures”, is now known as the winner of both High Point Angler and Top Lady Angler in the 2013 Bermuda Billfish Blast held in Hamilton, Bermuda on July 4th through the 6th.

Anglers were allowed to weigh a fish on July 4th, but were required to release all billfish hooked on the remaining 2 days of the tournament.

Kohl was fishing on the “Sea Toy” with local anglers Mike Nelson, Monica Freese and Ryan Freese, Capt. Bull Tolson and mate D.J. Dejarnette.

On the first day of the tournament, Kohl weighed a 547 lb. blue marlin before heading back out in time for both Ryan and Monica Freese to release blue marlin, giving the “Sea Toy” team 1,547 points for the day, enough to win the Daily Release Jackpot.

Following up their win on the first day of the tournament, Team “Sea Toy” furthered their lead with Kohl releasing a blue marlin on the 2nd day of fishing and two more on the final day of the tournament. Their blue marlin releases, coupled with the 547 pounder weighed on day 1, gave the “Sea Toy” 3,047 points and a commanding win over the “Impulse” who recorded 2,000 points in the tournament. For their first place finish, Team “Sea Toy” took home a check for $67,500 along with an invitation to the Offshore World Championship in Costa Rica.

With 2,047 points, Kohl also took home High Point Angler and Top Lady Angler honors. Kohl was the first female to be named Top Angler in the tournament.
