Mold Craft Fishing Products has been around since 1971 and is famous for producing many products, but none are more popular than their softhead lures. They claim that more world records, granders and tournament wins have been set with their lures than any other offshore lure on the market. Their Squirt Squid is responsible for the largest tuna ever caught on rod and reel in the United States, 1,228 lbs.
This year, the company has come out with a couple of new products that look interesting.
First is their Scaled Squid, which I saw the other day in Ake Marine. The Scaled Squid is a variation on their original Squirt Squid that comes in 6, 9, 12 and 16-inch models. The original model only came in solid or sparkled colors and are used to make spreader bars rigs and daisy chains.
The Scaled Squid has a new scale pattern that gives the lure a more natural appearance and comes in a wide variety of colors: blue scale on pink squid, black scale on natural squid, pink scale on blue squid, black scale on amber squid and blue scale on green squid.
MSRP for the squids ranges between $5.49 and $9.99.
Mold Craft has also come out with a group of lures that work in conjunction with BillfishJuice tablets.
Each of the lures contains chambers where the BillfishJuice tablets are placed. The tablets contain highly concentrated synthetic attractants that are formulated to mimic the smell of natural prey.
Mold Craft did not come up with the BillfishJuice technology. It was developed by an Australian company that conducted several controlled trials in Costa Rica where they ran identical teasers on both sides of the boat and found that over 70% of the bites came on the teaser loaded with the BillfishJuice tablets.
The tablets come in either 30 minute tablets or 1 hour tablets based on a trolling speed of 6 knots and 75-degree water temperature.
Mold Craft has specially designed 3 models for use with the BillfishJuice tablets: 4 Eyed Monsters, Wide Ranges and Super Chuggers.
The Wide Range is available in three sizes, Standard (8”), Senior (11”) and Magnum (18”). The 4-Eyed Monster and the Super Chugger both come in Standard and Senior sizes.
Prices vary based on model and size from $15.99 to $39.99 per lure.
